How do I get started?
Download the VOLUNTEER FORM, mail the completed form to Light Bringer Project. You will need Adobe Reader to view the Artist Entry Form. Click on the icon below or visit the Adobe website to download Adobe Reader.
What are the Volunteer hours?
Volunteer hours vary from the public hours, as volunteers will be needed to open and close the event. There will be two shifts per day, morning to afternoon (7:30 am to 2:00 pm), and afternoon to early evening (2:00 pm to 7:30 pm). At the beginning on Saturday and the close on Sunday, we will need extra helpers. There are also opportunities to volunteer certain days/hours preceding and post the event weekend. But the majority of volunteerism is during the two-day event.
Can I volunteer as a group?
If you wish to volunteer with a friend or relative, as a pair, or a group, we welcome it! We only ask that parents do not bring young children to watch while on their volunteer duty. And we ask that volunteers do not cancel, once signed up, without finding an appropriate replacement, well in advance of the event.
How old do I have to be to volunteer?
Adults are required for specific roles, and youth (15 yrs. or older) help carry out additional roles. Youth volunteers signing up with their school, club or social group, need to have their leader fill out the form, identify the group, and the number planning to volunteer. In most cases, we cannot accept more than 10-15 per youth group on each shift. Although, we will need more than one youth group per shift.
What are the Volunteer duties?
Volunteers are needed for numerous functions during the course of the event. And by filling out the form and giving us your available times, we will find the best role for you.ARTIST CHECK IN - SATURDAY MORNING
Artists check in at the start of the day, and this is when we distribute all of their chalk and supplies for the weekend. There is a long line and several hundred artists. They are also dropping off their small paintings.TAKING CARE OF THE ARTISTS
Keeping them happy- and watered, umbrellas over their heads,
buckets placed around for rinsing, moving and changing their spots, passing chalk, designated areas for animators and certain muralists, getting vendors where they need to go, answering to the public.ART GALLERY
An art gallery under a canopy will be set up in a particular pre-designed arrangement. Numerous small artworks need to be placed out with the forms and pencils. The area needs monitoring and several leaders helping provide information to the audience on 'how it works' and keeping the area clean.ART SHOP
A cart or booth for event merchandise needs to be organized for presentation before the event, staffed throughout the time of the festival, and closed at the end of the public hours.CHALKLAND
Chalkland is an area designated for smaller children to draw in chalk. They will be making Father's day cards on paper. We need help in setting up the area before the public arrives, staffing it though the festival, and closing it up at the end of the public hours.
What about food and water for Volunteers?
Water will be provided, but please bring snacks, a sack lunch, or some cash for the food providers at Paseo Colorado. There will be no food provided.
What should I wear?
Dress for the weather, if it's sunny and hot, wear cool clothing, hats and sunglasses, and wear sun protection, etc. Volunteer event t-shirts will be provided.
Where should I park?
Parking is not free. But there is convenient underground parking at Paseo Colorado with an undergroup parking lot and 2 satellite lots (Marengo and Los Robles off of Green Street). Parking is $6 maximum per day with a validation which you can get from the Paseo Colorado validator. We ask all volunteers to arrive at least 15 minutes before your shift, so we know you are there and can fill you in on where to go and what to do. Sunday of the event gets very crowded, so, please keep this in mind when planning extra time to find parking and get settled before starting your post.
Where should I report?
You will be notified as we get closer to the date of the event on further details.
