The 17th annual PASADENA CHALK FESTIVAL at Paseo Colorado celebrated Father’s Day Weekend on Saturday and Sunday as thousands of spectators enjoyed the annual festival that is open to the public and free of charge. Paseo Colorado’s interconnected mix of retail, entertainment, housing and garden promenades helps the Pasadena Chalk Festival continue the legacy of the street painting art form by offering festival visitors an opportunity to shop, dine or see a movie as the artworks come to life.
Over 500 artists came from all across Southern California to spend two days on their hands and knees creating 175 spectacular chalk murals on concrete areas in every style imaginable. In addition to the extraordinary opportunity to watch artists at work, guests were treated to live music an entertainment throughout the weekend. Families shared the day with each other as children created complimentary Father’s Day cards in KID’S CHALKLAND, and had their faces painted by face painters in a designated area for the children.
At the conclusion of the festival, participating artists voted for the outstanding murals of their peers in 12 different categories, including Best of Festival 1st, 2nd and 3rd Places, Best Technique, Best Use of Color and more. Festival visitors cast their vote for their favorite mural for Paseo Colorado’s People’s Choice Award, presented to Shuji Nishimura’s “Let It Be” Portrait of the Beatles. The artists selected as the Best in Festival by their peers were Arlou Somo “Mucha” in first place, Eric Sisley “Green Dame” in second place and Randall Williams “The Arch Angel Michael Slaying Satan” in third place. All of the winning entries received Spectacular Prize Packages filled with a wonderful selection of items from Paseo Colorado retailers and local Pasadena businesses. For a complete list of winners, please continue below.
